Dharon E. Jones has permanently succeeded Ben Cook in the role of Riff in the new Broadway production of West Side Story, after an injury that was sustained by Cook last Sunday. Jones originally played the role of Action in the revival, which began previews on December 10, 2019 at the Broadway Theatre.
Jones is making his Broadway debut in the production directed by Ivo van Hove and featuring new choreography by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. It is currently not known who will take over the role of Action.
The news of Cook's injury follows the prior announcement of a knee injury incurred by Isaac Powell, who plays Tony and is currently on leave from the production; Jordan Dobson is playing the lead role while Powell recovers. Powell's injury resulted in a two-week delay of the production's opening night to February 20.
